Campbell Scientific selects Stahlin Non-Metallic Enclosures for high-quality enclosures that perform well in extreme environments.

THE SITUATION:


Since 1974, Campbell Scientific has been a leading designer and manufacturer of dataloggers, data acquisition systems, and measurement and control products. These tools are used worldwide in a variety of applications related to weather, water, energy, structures, machines, and soils. Campbell Scientific specializes in rugged, low-power systems for long-term, stand-alone monitoring and control.
Campbell Scientific has always been committed to producing accurate and dependable instruments. Although enclosures are often specified as an afterthought, Campbell Scientific knows the importance of the enclosure to protect instruments—if the enclosure fails so will the entire system.


THE CHALLENGE:

Campbell Scientific uses non-metallic enclosures because they withstand a wide range of temperatures and other environmental factors unlike certain metals counterparts especially at high altitudes and corrosive coastal regions. Plus, metal enclosures tend to be heavier and more difficult to transport to remote locations to meet some of Campbell Scientific customers' needs.

Campbell Scientific's previous non-metallic enclosure supplier started to have quality issues in the field (UV fiberglass blooming too early) and was unwilling to accommodate some of the company’s special needs for enclosures without an increase in cost. In 2008, Campbell Scientific’s enclosure team started looking for a new supplier. They ended up making the decision to switch to Stahlin Non-Metallic Enclosures.

THE ANSWER TO THE CHALLENGE:




One of the reasons that Stahlin Non-Metallic Enclosures was selected by Campbell Scientific as their main supplier is because of SolarGuard®-- which is a unique proprietary non-metallic enclosures material formulation that is proven to beat competitors in harsh environments. This allows for better UV protection and reduces/delays fiberglass blooming. In addition, Stahlin was able to provide an enclosure in the color white which helps to aid in the reduction of high field temperatures.

The Stahlin management team was also willing to adjust shipping procedures over the years to ensure safekeeping in a Campbell Scientific warehouse setting. In addition, Stahlin negotiated a fair price so Campbell Scientific would be able to provide customers with the highest quality enclosures at reduced cost.

SolarGuard® is a patented, non-halogenated fiberglass system that beats the effects of outdoor exposure and provides outstanding chemical and flame resistance. For guaranteed protection, SolarGuard® meets an NFPA No.101 Class A flame spread index, and UL94-5V standards for fire retardancy, which is achieved through the use of alumina trihydrate fillers. These are important aspects of enclosure protection, especially in remote, outdoor installations such as those where Campbell Scientific are installed.


THE RESULTS



Since 2008, Campbell has used Stahlin Non-Metallic Enclosures' popular J Series on their company’s instruments.

Why?

Because Campbell Scientific is confident that the enclosures will continue to perform, as promised, for customers in very harsh environments such as deserts, mountains, rainy/humid settings, and much more. Plus, the Stahlin team continues to successfully support the company with special enclosures requirements and has proven that they are willing to listen to any, and all, new requests.
